Hanna Endowed Communication Scholarship

The Michael S. Hanna Endowed Communication Scholarship is intended for a declared communication junior or senior level student with a minimum GPA of 3.0 at USA who demonstrates financial need.  The applicant must describe in an essay of about 750 words their leadership, community and campus involvement, career goals and financial need.

Application submission begins: Thursday, April 1, 2010

Application deadline: Friday, May 14, 2010 by 5 p.m.

The endowment was established in December 2008 to honor Michael S. Hanna, Ph.D., Professor Emeritus of Communication. Hanna served on the faculty of the Department of Communication from 1978 until his retirement in 2003. He was chair of the department for five years and co-authored six books specializing in organizational and interpersonal communication.

Hanna received numerous awards and recognition for his passion and devotion to teaching and his students. In 1997, he was awarded “Best Faculty Member” for Outstanding Service to International Students at University of South Alabama. 

Along with teaching at USA, Hanna was also a frequent consultant and presenter to business and industry, having worked with Courtaulds Fibers, DuPont, Degussa, Olin, and Ciba-Geigy corporations.
